Etimologi[sunting]

Daripada perkataan bahasa Inggeris [Term?] m, iaitu The Guinness Book of Records menyenaraikannya sebagai "perkataan teringkas," menakrifkan perkataan ini sebagai "saling melihat mengharapkan yang lain menghulurkan bantuan melakukan sesuatu yang kedua-dua pihak inginkan tetapi tidak sanggup melakukannya."[1]

Perkataan ini bentuk terbitan biasa daripada kata kerja m /iɬəpi/, bermakna "rasa janggal" atau "menjadi rugi atas tindakan": ma[m]- [[w:Duaan_(bilangan tatabahasa)|Templat:smallcaps]] + ihlvpi + :n[a]- [[w:kata kerja keadaan|Templat:smallcaps]] + -at[a]- [[w:Kausatif|Templat:smallcaps]] + -a:pai Templat:smallcaps. Makna harfiahnya secara kasar "menjadikan satu sama lain rasa janggal kedua-duanya".[2]
